Question about my musette tuning
#1
Hi, I have a 120 bass Weltmeister Supita accordion. I went to my tuner last month and I would like you to give a listen to the musette tuning. I don't know if it's supposed to sound like that.

difficult to give an opinion without knowing how many voices your box has and which couplers you were using for the recording. Also there is no single version of 'musette' tuning so it is to some degree a matter of individual taste. However it sound reasonable to me, but what mattersis how it sounds to you and if you don't like the sound you need to talk to the tuner

I used the MM switch for this recording, one in cassoto and one outside, I don't know, it sounds a bit sharp to me, and it's if the tremolo is different in each tone. Also the tremolo is different in opening and closing the bellows. It is a very minute difference, but It's there and i wonder if I should bother the repairman with it.

You could always use the trial version of Dirk's tuner and check the degree of tremolo yourself. Not all 41 notes will be available to you but you will get the overall picture.

Thanks for your advice! How does it sound to you? Do you find it a little bit sharp?
Here is another recording: https://vocaroo.com/i/s0xU8XM6BoSX First time it's on bellows opening, the repeating section is on closing

Hi,

I appreciate musette tuning is probably not very popular in Bulgaria, and I wouldn't worry over much about the tuning of that accordion, as it's actually very pleasant. The musette is not too strong at all.

The thing to remember is what you hear from behind the instrument when playing it is not the same as the people who are listening to it in front of you. I couldn't hear the difference on the push and draw of the bellows you describe, and neither could most people. You'll be aware of any slight variations, as you're right on top of the reeds, but I wouldn't send it back when it sounds the way it does. Your playing is also very good.

Irish musette tuning was one of the strongest there was before they went onto "swing" tuning.

This musette tuning would probably be regarded as being just a bit too sharp these days, but it was popular until fairly recently.

Here is another even stronger example. The Irish audiences of the day preferred the sharp tuning.

The vibrato sounds uneven. It should be the same in both directions. It sounds like it was tuned (generally) to a lighter vibrato than was stock. These are available tuned as wet or dry as you like but it is hard to say what has been done since it left the factory.
