accordion SOLARI (SOLARIUM) 1895
#1
Hello,
I have an accordion from Jean SOLARI.
this model is the one that Mr SOLARI deposited in 1885 with a patent for invention (LE SOLARIUM).
the condition is very good, the bellows is intact only missing a few ivory keys.
I also have its original box.

I would like to get rid of it, can you give me an estimate of its value?
and if you are interested the price you offer me.

I attach qq photos as well as the links on the article.

thanks

Hi,

This is a very interesting historical accordion you have.
A music instruments museum might be interested.
Did you contact the MIM museum in Brussels or an international music instruments museum?

The best persons to estimate the value of this accordion are Hubert Boone, author of a book about the Belgian accordion makers, and the person leading the folk instruments collection of the MIM in Brussels (the accordions are part of the folk instruments collection in the MIM).

You can also ask the curator of this museum, she's a repair expert and has a huge collection of accordions:
http://www.worldofaccordions.org/instruments.html

I hope you can sell this accordion to the MIM in Brussels.
It would be a big loss for the MIM if they can't keep this unique accordion type in Belgium.

They also work in collaboration with accordion repairers or luthiers, so they can restore the instrument.

Good luck.

That seems to be a reasonable price for the Solari accordion.

If I were you I would mention to the MIM in Brussels that the former Director of the MIM, Miss Malou Haine, wrote about your instrument by Solari in her encyclopedia on Belgian luthiers.

This information could help the MIM to buy your instrument, and expose it to the public. Such a rare instrument deserves a place in public museum.

She speaks about the Solari patent on page 389, the "Solarium", a free bass accordion with 2 piano keyboards:
