I played back Acker Bilk for comparison right after - the tonality of Mr Bilk's playing was noticably deeper, more resonant and better paced - at least in my view.
He played at a Students' Union evening entertainment when I was in UNI and I've been a bit of a fan ever since.
I never had the chance to see Acker Bilk live. His 'Stranger On The Shore' I used for a years while playing.
The band in your original post shares the lead more than in the Bilk version and I like both.
Different age, tastes and standards.
