Hi, today I went to Stocco, in Stradella. I was looking for an accordion (but this is another story in another post;);)) and I met Giuseppe. He is a very good musician and a very nice guy, really. I take some pics (some are blurred, sorry) and I share them with you. Unfortunately, I am not an accordionist so maybe some pics are nonsense but that's it. I invited Giuseppe to join this forum and maybe he will in the next day.

I hope you enjoy this pic. Maybe for you are "just normal", for me was exciting. I hope I didn't break any rule on here and of course, no one pay me for this post;) Just passion for accordion, and Italian handcraft. PS This is the shop and its back. They produce the accordion in another area

Thanks for sharing the pictures. It must have been a fun trip. I’d like to visit one day, but I’m a just a few more km away than you. :)

Did you get to play a lot of instruments?

Very exciting! It's a pity I can't play any instrument because I never played accordion except two months 4 years ago... Maybe next time. Fortunately, I am close to Stocco (30km) and Giuseppe is always very available. Yesterday I rented the accordion for 3 months. In June I will go back. If I can play without pain I will buy an accordion. Otherwise...

Best of luck to you, Ric, I really hope you are able to play.

Very cool. I love pix like those. Someday I hope to get there too.

"same" accordion (voices, register, cassotto) but different size. Today I discovered that most of the Stocco CBA accordions have "mushroom" bass buttons...

The mushroom buttons are very popular on the French and northern Italian style boxes. They also have the register switches on the back and the grill doesn’t have the thumb screws for removal. I think the reeds might be arranged differently, but someone with more knowledge than me would have to address that. Stoccos can be ordered with the other style bass buttons.

Thank you. I didn't know. Is there any small accordion (72 basses) with 3 reeds? It seems to me that the reeds on the 96 basses (both hands) are more "air demanding" (maybe it's just an impression) and it's ok with 96's basses bellow size but with a smaller one? I'm getting confused...

I’m not the most knowledgeable, but I think a 96 bass accordion is just a 72 bass with repeats. So, there are just more buttons that control the same number of reeds. When the accordion gets bigger, there can be more ‘sets’ of reeds, but in an instrument with 4 sets of bass reeds, a 72 bass and a 96 bass will have the same number of reeds. The extra weight would be the buttons and the levers, so I don’t think it would add a lot more weight. I would imagine that the number of basses is determined by the keyboard size, since it would be impossible to have 120 basses with a smaller treble keyboard.

On a 72 bass instrument, you might have to make a large jump when you run out of buttons, but on a 96 or 120, the repeats give you more options. So, there is a benefit to having as many as can fit.

This is my understanding. Can anyone confirm this?

Here is a smaller 72 bass 3 treble reed instrument. So it looks like it’s possible.

I we t to that shop about three years ago while on a trip to northern Italy. Pretty cool to walk into a shop full of accordions. Got to play a few different models. I thought they were great sounding instruments. Giuseppe was great although we had to converse using google translate but music is music wherever you go. He writes a lot of his own music as well for the accordion and has the sheet music for download on his web site.
