The "...novel way of holding his accordion..." possibly has what I heard being described as "tump-line back" in Nepal, acquired from carrying heavy loads in baskets on the back supported by a 'tump-line' over the forehead.
The person's torso develops a very rigid muscular structure which this guy seems to have.
