As I hoped a bit ago: Accordion Emoji Project (real)
An Accordion Emoji did get approved! So over 2020 it will become available to use it on some phones and computers all over the world. A bit of fun. Feel free to let your online accordion friends know.
Theyll be in phone updates for Windows, Google and Mac computers. It may take until the Fall of 2020 for some systems. Nobody has to use them, but theyll be there. Right now (Feb 2020) it just shows up as a blank block for me ?, but should work as computers are updated.
The irony of announcing this here is that different places treat this kind of symbol differently, and bulletin boards like this one may not show them at all. Ah well.
For fun I wrote about the process of applying for the emoji here:
https://accordionuprising.wordpress.com/2020/01/30/accordion-emoji-coming-in-2020/
It turns out that different places make their own design for how each one looks, so Apple and Android phones will have their own picture.
But the first public version, with a jaunty cartoony piano accordion, looks like this:
https://emojipedia.org/accordion/
Carry on.
Oh, and if youve ever wasted time on social media, I gathered #AccordionTwitters responses to the announcement here:
