Accordion Star Competition

The third annual Accordion Star competition has begun to be aired on you tube on Friday. The competition,based all on pre-recorderEd performances runs until June 30th. Most of the categories are based on age but there is a category for ensemble and one for amateur players eighteen and over. The level of playing is mind-boggling. There was a young woman about twelve or thirteen from China,her performance was extraordinary. But they are all exceptional. Really an incredible festival of playing.

some favourites of mine so far-Nikolay Bine ,Russian born but lives in British Columbia. He’s an exceptional player-mostly jazz. What is so exciting about this video is he is playing with a large string ensemble.
There is a fellow from Lithuania-in the best video category. Exceptiorally well done video.
in the 18 plus amateur so far the three players are very good,but the two two guys are fantastic.
And in ensemble eighteen and younger there is a trio from Poland who are fantastic-it’s especially interesting to watch the middle player of the trio cue the other players fascinating team work.
there are two groups from-and I’m get the country wrong-I think it’s Kajikistan-one ensemble the other solo. The soloist is phenomenal,but the ensemble is very good too.
the strangest is a girl-maybe thirteen years old. Exceptional playing but zero expression or emotion. It’s kind of sad because she plays phenomenally well but there’s no indication of joy in her playing. I can’t imagine what her home life must be like-so talented but absolutely no expression.
