Accordion straps: where to put when boxed?

Well, this may be a silly question but, anyway... I have just put new leather straps on my Estrella 34/60 and they are larger than the original and padded. So, when putting it back to its box, I don't like them to be under the accordion. But putting them over the keys is not ideal either πŸ˜…

Any hint on this?

Jose

By "box", I assume you mean a "hard case" made for an accordion. There is a nice soft piece of cloth (attached to the front of the box). You pull the cloth out of the box. Then set your accordion in. Hold the straps up and place the cloth over the keys and grille. Then put the straps down over the cloth. I do this all the time and have never gotten a scratch on the keys or the grille.

My teacher taught me to place the straps underneath the accordion. The β€œextra” part would sort of stick out towards the higher keys of the accordion. Would that work for you?

Thank you all for the comments!. I have left them below the accordion as setting them over it was very unnatural for the straps fixing points and the leather should be forced to get them properly placed. This seems a more natural position for these larger straps

All my bigger accordions have 4" wide straps. A lot depends on what kind of container you are using but as an example, Morino and Gola have hard cases with 4" straps, I move the straps OVER the keyboard and wrap them in a towel so that they don't scratch the keys or grill before placing or removing it from the case.

I want them in the front because that way they do not dangle when I pull them out where they cannot catch on something and cause me to drop the accordion. Not fun if your box is 25-35 pounds and you are bent over trying to angle something out of the case!

I also have one of those soft cases that can be used to split an accordion in to 2 parts (split at the bellows), that one I am comfortable leaving the straps in the back at their normal position but prefer to have them at the front, again, wrapped in a large towel becuase the case is soft and the removal process is from a completely different angle it can work from either side, just more convenient when they are in the front.

If I did that with my big boxes with 4" straps, without a towel, they'd scratch the crap out of it and raise the front of the accordion enough that the front would rub on the case inside.

Since I always play seated, two inch wide straps are quite adequate for me and fit easily underneath the accordions in their boxes, lying down.
As I'm going for convenience, my accordions lie flat on their backs in their boxes which sit lying flat, nicely out of the way, along the top of the wardrobes in our bedrooms .
Lifting the accordions, in their boxes, up to their perches on the top of the wardrobes and down again constitutes a significant portion of my daily exercise!πŸ˜„
I hadn't heard of storing accordions in the playing orientation (until recently), so they've been lying on the their backs for several decades (50 years) without any noticeable damage so far.
If they can last a few more years, they'll see me through!πŸ˜„

I have installed quick disconnect links on both of my front line accordions. I have threatened to post a thread on this subject in the past but it fell by the wayside. I'll get a post/photos of what I did soon. Working on an important project right now but will get it together as soon as project it finished. On or off takes 15-20 seconds. Quite happy with the mod.
