The accordion I learned on in my youth (Giulietti 180 bass) had that wonderful second row of counter basses not to mention extra chord buttons...would make playing bass lines using an acoustic or electric bass sound much easier.

I don't think a any digital accordion maker will provide a 180 bass model, I can just imaging the price hahaha!

Trying to adapt my old fingering patterns to this 120 bass is taking some doing I can tell you. It sounds ok though.

I'll be running it through it's MIDI paces over coming days with the Roland BK-7M.
Still haven't decided on the Richard Noel set, or just creating a dozen or so basic bass/keys setups and go from there.

It's a LOT lighter!

Not only is the Noel sets highly recommended, it will give you insights on some of the sonic possibilities that you’d never even think to do. Adding the Noel sets is the way all v-accordions SHOULD come from the factory!

A Roland does not have the extra bass rows but it can be set up for a 3+3, so with the extra counter basses. So for bass runs that might help.

Ooh really, that sounds interesting - is that in the manual? I don't recall seeing that term 3+3

I don't have the manual, but the specs: there is 2 bass rows and then a number of variations starting with 3 bass rows (the variations are about what is on the third row of chords).

The manual for my 8X has four different "3 Bass Row" configurations. I downloaded the manual for the 4X and it has the same configurations as the 8X. It should be on page 100 of your 4X manual. The layout is 3+3; i.e; there are 3 Bass Rows and 3 Chord Rows.

Thanks John

Thanks Jerry. I have all the available manuals for the FR 4. I just had not come across the 3+3 term :) I have found it now and it gives those extra bass notes, at the expense of losing the diminished chord row. Will need to replace the indented buttons as I assume this moves that main bass line down one.

I have no idea what it does... I'll leave that honour for you to figure out and maybe post a video or two so we can see that 3 line bass do it's thing! :D

Yes the main base notes move one row. There are several options for what the last row of chords does. One of them should give you a 7th chord consisting of 3-5-7 and that can double up as a diminished: C7 plays E-G-Bb and this can be used as Gdim. For the first 15 years or so I played a Crucianelli PA with 3+3 bass layout, so I am well aware of what this does. When you have an accordion with 2+3 (for instance 80 bass) it often has the rot for 7th double up as dim for the next note as well.

Thanks...yes I had a 180 bass Giuletti Stradella/Freebass when studying as a kid. With 120 , some compromising/substitution and new fingering is required haha!
