I've never seen a half button half keyboard right hand configuration! Am I correct in assuming this is a pretty rare beast? What are the advantages to this strange layout?

The partial keyboard on this accordion is really just for show as it is just a 4th row of buttons. The piano keyboard look was very popular in the US in the 30s and 40s. Alice Hall was a popular performer in the 40s and played a 3 row button box, but when performing she used an accordion that simulated the piano keyboard look. --
