We're having a little contest, running until the end of March. Please feel free to enter - see the thread in the "I Did That" section of the forum. Don't be shy, have a go!
This is a photo of my grandfather‘s accordion. He has passed and we’re trying to learn more about to figure out if it’s worth it to try and fix it. It works a bit but not well. My father thinks it may be 50 years old. If you know anything about these please help. Thank you!
Welcome DK!
50 years...and the rest!
It looks to be a 21 treble/12 bass button melodeon from the 1930s.
It is, however, by a reputable Italian maker.
You'll probably get better information from
Melodeon.net which specialises in such things!
See here:
Probably closer to 80 years old. Very reputable maker and good extended bass, which is very in vogue these days.
Needs to be completely overhauled, but it will make a very good melodeon if restored by a competent fettler.
Depends on your local prices and the quality of work being done, but overhaul, & set-up can set you back over $500. The end result should be well worth it if you are serious about learning to play the melodeon.
Welcome DK! It’s a cool accordion, and worth restoring, but as a labor of love, not money, as has been noted. I recommend you take a beautiful drive north about an hour and a half to Canaan, to the New England Accordion Connection, ask for Paul. He will tell you everything you need to know about this accordion, and getting it repaired. Good luck!
