Hi All

I am very very interesting into melodeons and all things around them.

I am thinking about to get build new melodeon but I am not sure what
reeds to put into it.

I am contacting You All and I would really ask You please find a little of
time to read and if possible to answer my questions .

I believe that You based on You experience with accordions and can
help to answer couple of questions I still have about accordion reeds.

I tried to write questions the way that it should be possible to
answer them YES-NO or just with little comments.

Questions about big multiple reeds reed plate :

Please consider the same material of reed ( tongue ) , the same shape
of reed (tongue) , the same shape of reed slot , the same material of
reed plate, the same reed plate thickness, the same air pressure
causing reed (tongue ) to vibrate and the same accordion box.

Please try to answer “ YES-NO” if possible :

1.Is loudness of sound generated from big multiple reeds plate bigger
than the loudness of sound generated from normal ( small –common )
reed plate ?

2. If Yes if possible can You say how many % loudness of big multiple
reed plate is comparing to loudness of small common reed plate ?

3. Is “color ( harmonious )” of sound generated from big multiple
reeds plate better that the “color ( harmonious )” of sound
generated from normal ( small –common ) reed plate ?

4. Does it have any sense to get produce big multiple reed plate for
to install it into diatonic accordion to get stronger and more
harmonious sound of instrument ?

5. Can You state positive points and negative points please for big
multiple reeds reed plate ?

Questions about reed plates made off different materials:

Please consider the same material of reed ( tongue ) , the same shape
of reed (tongue) , the same shape of reed slot , the same reed plate
thickness, the same air pressure causing reed (tongue ) to vibrate and
the same accordion box.

Please try to answer “ YES-NO” if possible :

1. Does loudness of sound generated from different metals reed plates
differ from Zinc reed plate to Brass reed plate to Duralalumin reed
plate ?

If Yes if possible can You say how many % loudness differs comparing
different metals of reed plate ?

2. Does “color ( harmonious )” of sound generated from different
metals reed plates differs from Zinc reed plate to Brass reed plate to
Duralalumin reed plate ?

3. Is it possible to tune up reeds on Duralaluminium reed plates that
it will generate the same “color-harmonious” of sound that reed on
Zinc or Brass reed plate ? Consider same accordion box.

4. Is it possible to tune up reeds on Duralaluminium reed plates that
it will generate the same loudness of sound that reed on Zinc or Brass
reed plate ? Consider same accordion box.

5. Is it possible to tune up reeds on Duralaluminium reed plates that
it will generate the same loudness of sound and the same “color-
harmonious “ of sound that reed on Zinc or Brass reed plate but in
different accordion box made off other kind of wood ?

6. If question 5. answer is YES please what kind of wood use ?

Thank You All very much for Your answers and help

Best Regards
Andrej

Hi Andrej; The questions you ask here require more than answers that contain a simple yes or no - but if you insist here goes -- (1) yes (2) the % varies (3) in most cases - yes (4) There are to many factors here for a yes or no answer (5) This depends on the weight and size you require -- On the reed questions (1) & (2) yes - hand made reeds with duraluminum plates will be louder with less air pressure used. (3) & (4) in most cases - no (5) Hard woods such as maple , walnut, cherry, mahogany and no lighter than poplar aged more than 10 years is recommended. Try visiting the - http://www.accordionrevival.com/ website - give it a careful read with an emphasis on chapter 3 and return with more definitive questions. Musically yours; JIM D.

Dear Jim

Thank You for reply with answers and with web page .

Please what do You mean when You use "&" as answer ? Is it Yes or NO ?

About big multiple reeds reed plate : I was not considering weight , I was concentrating on things like if it is more complicated to tune it up compare to common small reed plates or as well like repairs if some reed is broken , and things like this, anyway thank You for reminding the weight.

Best Regards
