Hello I am new here. I am not an accordion player. I have been left my mum's accordion. As far as I know it is a pre WW2 Borsini accordion. But I am not sure. If anyone could help with any information about it's age or any other information about it. i would be most grateful. Mum rarely played it. and it has been stored away for many years. But it plays ok and sounds fine to an untrained ear. But I am sure it probably needs some sort of checking over I know almost nothing about it whatsoever. and if anyone can tell me anything at all I would be so happy. many thanks .

It looks like a 50's model... but if you have something called waterfall keys that would bring it closer to the 1940's. Most definitely all older accordions need some maintenance, if stored in a dry cool location that is almost ideal, but irrespective of the accordion, they all tend to age, but age a little faster if not regularly played.

Like a car, the real value is under the hood... in this case, it is inside the accordion. A knowledgeable person can open it up, check out the condition of the reeds, valves, how air tight it is and the tune.

Funny story, yesterday I pulled my tiny Titan(Titano) accordion off the shelf to give it some exercise. The shoulder straps, at full extension, are still way too small for me (how could I have ever fit this thing... lol), so I kind of hooked one strap over my shoulder over it and played it the best I could.

I've had it since the early 1960's, and no joking, it is in "as new" condition, doesn't have even one tiny scratch and plays incredibly well for a 2 reed instrument... always brings back many good memories. :)
