I like reading before going to bed.
I particularly like reading many of the older books being given away for free at the local "bookshed" because, presumably, no one would spend anything on them as being of little interest or value, being passé?🤔
Yet, I have found some of the most fascinating books to be in this very assortment.
Recently, I came across an older, illustrated hardback copy of Charlie Chapllin's Autobiography.
Simply fascinating!
The man made good in spite of a very unpromising hand dealt to him by fortune.
Another such interesting find was Benvenuto Celini's autobiography " My life" more enthralling than a James Bond movie!
Should you find either, by all means read them!🙂

I wasn't aware of Cellini's autobiography before. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Now, Berlioz's opera Benvenunto Cellini I have known about for a long time :)

Apparently he played--or at least owned--an accordion. (Any mention of that in the book?)
Not that I've seen so far 🙂
There's this comment on the internet:
"He used his downtime to practice both the cello and the violin, writing in his autobiography that he practiced four to six hours a day and took lessons with musicians he met on tour. His aunt Kate said: “The 'cello was the instrument I think he loved best.” (Kate, quoted in Jim Lochner, The Music of Charlie Chaplin, p.30 Apr 2021"

Dingo, it's funny you speak of Cellini. My wife and I just returned from Italy where we spent a week in Catania, Sicily, where he was born and lived. There is a full city square with a beautiful statue of him in the center of the city.
