Czardas, composer Vittorio Monti

Hi Im currently living in Australia and new to the forum. Ive taught myself piano accordion for the past few months. Ive done a couple of short recordings of different parts of Czardas ,posted on Instagram. Its quite a challenging piece to attempt but I really love the melody, so emotive and lively. I like to hear comments from others.

Welcome to the forum.
Just listened to your recordings and am impressed by your progress with the accordion after only a few months. Well done. Czardas is indeed a wonderful piece of music and very challenging. It’s a tough one for a beginner. If I were you I’d make sure you played other pieces of a simpler nature to improve your bellows control and achieving a smother delivery of melodic lines.

An impressive start for a beginner. A few comments:
- Watch the use of the bellows: you sometimes change direction where it should not be done; you also forget to pull hard enough when you have that line going up (C E G Bb C E G...) so although you press all the keys not all the notes sound.
- In the fast part, make sure you choose a fingering that lets the bits fit together. You end a short fast bit with the same finger as what you start the next short bit with but that way you can never later make the two bits flow nicely from one to the next.

I think the most challenging aspect of accordion playing is not able to see the keys with a direct view like piano or keyboard.
Ive done a couple of short clips on parts of Ivanovicis Waves of Danube Waltz. Again I appreciate your comments.

Just a minor comment, don't get too much in to the habit of playing pieces of songs. Whatever song you start, take it from the beginning to the end. This simply reinforces you to work on all the skills needed to play complete songs, and not just the easier parts of it.

Actually, not being able to see the keys is very helpful. On the piano you are not supposed to look at the keys either, but its harder not to look when you actually can. Its important to remember that each key stays where it is from the day you first touched the accordion. You can learn where each key is and you dont need to look at the keyboard at all. Playing without looking at the keys was one of the first things I learned on the accordion (and likewise on the piano).
