Hello,

I've been playing the accordion quite a lot some 15 years ago and now I'm thinking of starting again.

I still have my old Hohner Erica that I play now and then, and I've had an older Hagström and a Hohner key accordion.

I've been looking at Weltmeister Achat and Delicia Arnaldo 23, both with 3 voices and 72 basses.

They are about the same price, so I'm wondering if anyone know about them, and their pros and cons.

Thanks
/Oskar

Are you set on buying a new accordion?

I don't have personal experience of either, but modern Welties are generally rated better than Delicias. If you are undecided you should try both and see what you think.

Best wishes.

Not definitely, but I had some bad experience with previous older ones, spending more time repairing than playing.

The exception is my Hohner Erica; my grandfather bought it, probably in the 50s or 60s, and it still works fine. I have just fixed some leaking seals.

We had experience with three Welties, a Rubin (still have, bought secondhand on eBay, but very good), a Kristall bought new from Germany, and a CBA Romance also bought new from Germany.

All were extremely good value for the price, well constructed and perfectly reliable. The two originally bought new were exchanged for more expensive Italian instruments mainly because of nicer (we felt) and more balanced sound between treble and bass. To be fair tone preferences also depend on the type of music you like to play. I would still recommend a modern Welty to anyone on a value for money basis.

No real experience of a Delicia though.

Good luck with your choice.

Rob

Thanks for the answers so far.

I've now realised that I want an accordion with musette (three voices). Apparently the Weltmeister has that option if you order a new one.

Any other good musette tuned accordions with ~34 keys and 72 bases for up to £1500 out there?

That's a respectable budget, (OK, maximum.) Are you within reach of any accordion shops/dealers to go and try a few out?
Tom

I'd rather keep it under £1000 of course, but being a big investment anyway it's mostly good to stretch it a bit to make sure it will suit you perfectly.

Here in Uppsala we have Viking burial mounds, a big cathedral and the heritage from Carl von Linné. That was all before the invention of the accordion, and a little has happened since. I'm investigating which shops could be worth a visit in the Stockholm area.

Thats a great image. Viking warriors on their longboat, helmets, horns etc. and an accordion player...

I think having hosted Linnæus is enough glory for any city. I checked up to see if he was born in the area (he was not), and I see that when he was a boy, his teachers told his disappointed father that he was unlikely to be much of a scholar. ha. But history doesn't seem to record much about any musical aptitude.

Perhaps worth looking at Moreshi too... I have a new 72bass box which I use as my 'streetfighter' when the venue is too dodgy to take my Brandoni out... Korean build but Italian reeds...lovely sound with reasonable playability for price....if it's good enough for Valhalla it's good enough for you

Didn't (frequent poster) Stephen indicate that Weltmeister may be in difficulties?
That would be a great pity.

Does someone know if the E. Soprani is a Chinese made Italian brand, or made in some other European country. It seems to be priced just under the Weltmeister and even Delicia.

I have the same accordion (the same model as your photo posted on Thursday October 22nd),.
If you do get any information about it, I would be grateful if you would share it,
