that's strange - I just happened to discover Cyrille Brotto for myself about two weeks ago, and was very taken with him also. he must be perhaps an emerging talent in Britain, though he seems to be well known in France. lovely lilt to the music. Like Andy Cutting's sort of style, but different. Breton, I suppose?
I see theres an Eva Parmenter with a similar act, at least from a casual impression; sounds improvised to me. I dont know Breton, but am vaguely reminded of some music Ive heard out of Provence. Heres something that doesnt sound anything like it, from an Italian melodeon player, but at least someone in the group is from Provence: Capelli Neri.
This music genre is very popular in Bretagne in France, and also in Belgium.
They mix the traditional folk pieces with some jazzy chromaticism, there are many crossover influences with other genres to get this dreamy music.
We are fortunate to have this groups in our regions. I think it started in the 1980s and the crossover began in the 1990s.
This genre of accordion music is played in many dance festivals with trad and folk music.
