During the late 1950s, Cajun music was on a slow decline and rock music was taking over the area. However, it didnt stop Cajun musicians from recording or starting new record labels. Lawrence Walker was one of these who would keep the music alive. Walker would record on Floyd Soileaus VEE-PEE record label, named after the initials of Floyds hometown of Ville Platte. One of these tunes was Bon Ton Rouley (#102).

Somehow the above link is broken. This recording is well worth listening to, so I hope this new link works. I think a lot of people yell “Laissez les bon temps rouler” without knowing the depth of these lyrics. The Cars got it right with the Mournful/Ambivalent chorus of their hit “Let the Good Times Roll.” All of Walker’s recordings are worth hearing.
