Dear Accordion Players,

I am new to these forums, so first of all Id like to greet all of you. It is great to see an active community of accordion players from all over the world.

I have been desperately trying to find an accordion arrangement for Edvard Griegs In the Hall of the Mountain King, but failed miserably. The only sheet music I could dig up was the one on free-scores.com (http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=43419 ), but I am having troubles interpreting this one - I couldnt figure out what to play on the bass side...

Have you ever came across sheet music for accordion for this piece? Are you aware of any collection, album or compilation where I could find it?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Gabor

The bass notes are written about the treble (right hand) line. ie. Am, B/A, Bb/A, Am, C

Now when you get to the (id) part (Section B) - repeat the bass lines provided before you got to that location in the song. ie. Am, B/A, Bb/A, Am, C. You'll notice that Section B (right hand) is a repeat of the beginning of the song, just taking some measures an octave higher.

Is the type of information you were looking for to help answer your question?

P.S. I downloaded this piece, it looked like something I'd be interested in playing. I will write the bass chords in on my piece though as I don't like trying to memorize the bass line, I like to readily see it on my sheet music.

Dear Brandy, thank you so much for replying to my post. This helps a lot, now it is a bit clearer, but what do I play at Section C and from that one on? Do I just keep repeating the same bass pattern in each of these sections?

Another thing: E6 as a bass accord does not seem familiar to me, it must be some different notation that I studied. Is there another common signature for this accord? Is this E7?

Thanks a lot for your help!

A 6th chord is just a variation of a major chord. and without checking this instance, I would guess the the added 6th is in the melody, so is taken care of by the right hand.

I really like 6th chords!
Chord plus the counterbass one step "down" is one way to get them on the left hand, ie C chord plus the A counterbass of the F row.

With the A in the bass you'd call it an Am7 (minor seventh chord). Same notes as C6 but different inversion, and different harmonic function.

I can't offer you any help, but thank you for posting the link - I've just printed out the score and will try it out before I comment on it's worthiness!

Thanks for posting the lead sheet of Griegs great theme. It intrigued me enough that I spent way too much time on it.

I just posted a soundcloud version based on an adaptation of the version provided. I found I had to change quite a number of things, and clarify many other details. I now have a lead sheet that I can read with ease, and that is reasonably consistent with symphonic versions on youtube. This is how it sounds with the revised version--admittedly, without all of the dynamic changes suggested by Grieg.

This version is playable on the stradella with ease. My soundcloud recording was made with some orchestration using the FR-7x, but the version sounds quite good on the acoustic accordion as well. I did NOT create a bass clef staff--you will need to read the chord symbols to create the basses.

If interested in the revised lead sheet just send me an email at <EMAIL email=bakersfieldaccordion@gmail.com>bakersfieldaccordion@gmail.com</EMAIL>.
