Been here for ages!
report on the n-Drive available from Nalbantov and available directly
floppyusbemulator.com
or through Amazon
i have several Korg i5m and an ix300 which all suffer from floppy drive fatigue and are
no longer useable professionally on gigs
the Nalbantov device was truly easy to install, it fit perfectly, came with everything it needed,
was professionally packaged and presented, and had good documentation.
i was concerned it might miss the mark, but it even respects the usage of "physical order of midi files"
added to the "floppy" drive so the "auto play the entire disk" function works correctly
(this is important to me, as i typically place one "SETLIST" of files on a floppy and stroll
as the midi files run in the correct order)
I had seen these on eBay and the internet years past but was not comfortable dealing with eastern Europe
directly and shipping and currency and customs. now that they are offered through AMAZON i felt confident
enough to try one, since AMAZON guarantees the first 30 days for return
i definitely recommend this company and product to other musicians with old but still wonderful MIDI devices
that sit idle because the floppy drive has died
for background, i also have an i40m (too bulky for my comfort)
as well as a Korg MP-10 Pro upgraded with an SSD,
so i have a way to carry my entire catalog of MIDI files to a gig, but
i would still prefer using the old i5m and creating individual setlists on separate "floppy discs"
so i have formatted a dozen USB sticks ( they provide software that sets 1.44 on Fat )
and am happily again using my i5m out in the studio (and soon on gigs too) the same as i did in the past
for my money, the i5m is small, lightweight, sounds great, is incredibly rugged, and aside from MIDI use
was probably the best pre-set pattern drum machine ever produced and handy to use for requests
ciao
