Hi maybe someone can guide me how to transfer fr7x sounds to my fr8x expansion slot.i don't have the sounds but i have someone with fr7x.maybe one of you has the sounds.thanks

I assume you mean the sound sets. As far as I know you cannot reuse the sound samples as they are unique to each instrument.

as i was told it is possible .in the fr8x manual on pages45-46 it's shown there is a way to inport through usb memory.

The sound samples will have to be transferred using a flash drive - you will have to experiment as some will take and some won't. I have transferred sound samples from a FR-7x to a FR-3x with the same results - some will take and some won't. You might join the FR-8x Yahoo group and ask your ??'s on the site as there should be some members in the process of doing just what you desire.

The manual pages you mention are about sets. Set data is like a phone book listing. It merely points to pieces of data. The data itself is stored elsewhere. The sound samples are one of these pieces of data. As Jim says, Roland probably made changes to the sample format between the two models. There is no guarantee that one will work from the 7X. To load one you need a copy on a usb stick then need to rename it to look as if it came from an 8x.

I had a very long answer in which I detailed what happens to 7x sets that are transferred to the 8x, but I decided on a brief answer instead.

Yes, 7x sets will transfer to the 8x. However, they are incomplete, do not take advantage of the 8x characteristics, and often contain settings that must be changed. Perhaps more importantly, they will not be sets, either, they will be User Programs. What you end up is a collection of user programs that need a lot of "tidying up" to be of use, and even then, they will almost never be as useful as user programs that are designed from the ground up.

It might be more productive to start with a thorough understanding of sets, including how to select all of the different voices, how to modify important parameters, how to combine sounds, and more. Then you can start saving your favorite settings as user programs. Or, if you don't need a lot of voice changes, the sets may satisfy your needs.

I have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours programming the 8x, 7x, 3x, and 1x, and in no case was it satisfactory, at least for me, to transfer sets from one v-accordion to another. Each has unique characteristics that make such a transfer less than ideal.

Just my thoughts....
