Hi all,
I have a very annoying keynoise on both the treble and bass sides when I release a button.
It only happens with the Roland switched on, when it is off it is totally silent, so it is a generated noise.
I've searched the manual but can't find anything related to "key noise", only bass growl, valve noise etc.
I wonder if this is common to all FR8s or just mine.
Thanks in advance

I don't have a Roland but I do know that all the artificial noises (Roland put in to simulate these "features" or shortcomings of acoustic accordions) can be controlled, made louder, softer or disabled. I'm sure it must be in the manual, but don't know where.

Well done Ed, that is indeed the solution! I've disabled all the keyboard and button noises from my 8X a long time ago and cannot be happier.

See p.107, section 14.9 "General Setting", for "KBD & BTN NOISE". I don't have a Roland (yet) - just R'ing The FM.
Thanks Ed,
I'd looked through the manual but didn't see that.
I'd also looked in the index and contents but there's no mention of keyboard and button noises.
However!!
When I checked on 14.9 kbd/button noise, it said off!!.
I turned it on, saved it, and the noise is there.
I turned it off again, saved it and the noise is the same!
I rechecked each time to make sure the display was changing and it was.
This is on both treble and base sides.
With the volume at zero the noise is the same.
I have made other changes in the past, including updating the version number and all behaved correctly.
Back to square one :(

Thanks Ed,
just tried that. The settings were on std. so I've set them to off, but no change.
As a matter of interest I checked on the orch setings and they all have the same noise.
I wouldn't have expected a clarinet or a sax to have noises, so perhaps it's not a keyboard setting.
Can't think what else it could be.

Have you been able to save any system parameters today and have them take effect?
In other words, have you perhaps forgotten that you need to WRITE any changes? (p.117 "How to save system parameters").

(I'm getting an FR-1xb this week, so this is all good practice!)

Yes I had saved them. I even went as far as to double check that they had changed, then changed them again to a different setting then back again and it all changed as expected but the bl**dy key noise is still there.

just in case.. you have tried different reedsets ?

i had identified noise artifacts on the original 7 that were taken
as part of the sampling/modeling and so were part and parcel of
certain reedsets final burn, and could not be tweaked out.

What „volume“ do you mean? Main volume knob? No sound of any instrument but the artificial keyboard noise is still there?

That‘s spooky!

Yes , it happens on all reedsets including bass

Yes , main volume knob at zero. When powered off, silent

OK let me take a stab at this.

Page 76, section 3.3 - BASS/CHORD NOISE and REED GROWL set to OFF
Page 107, section 14.9 - KBD&BTN NOISE set to OFF
Page 108, section 15.3 - Noise Vol set to OFF
Page 109, section section 15.4 - Noise Vol set to OFF
Page 109, section section 15.4 - Growl Vol set to OFF
Page 109, section section 15.5 -Noise Vol set to OFF

That should take care of all "noises". If not, time to download the PDF, search for "noise" and basically turn off anything related to keyboard noises, both left and right hands.

Thanks Gerry for your reply.
I was kinda hoping you would chime in as you know these beasts inside out. I've already done the first 3 suggestions, not sure about the others but I'll check them out today.
I've already downloaded the manual and printed it out. Trouble is, the index and table of contents is useless and I've been slowly going through it page by page looking for anything remotely connected.
I'll report back.

No prob, I just downloaded the PDF real quick and searched for the word "noise" in it and verified the 42 ties it found it and just posted that here. I was rushed this morning, so there may be another one in there that I might have missed.

A new problem has reared it's head.
I went to check all the setting I had done previously and they had all returned to original!!.
Now I know I am saving them corrctly as I followed the manual and have done it many times before with success.
I'm now wondering if the Roland FR8 has a an internal battery the same as on PCs, to save the settings when powering off.
If they do, perhaps mine has failed, giving the the results I'm getting.
Any of the Gurus know?
Thanks

I probably have the 2nd or 3rd oldest 8X here and never had that issue... and I do know that Ventura was looking over an 8X for a battery without success, so my guess is that it is *possible* that it just wasn't saved right?

I'd make sure that the battery was properly charged up and just set the settings that I wanted and do a system-wide save. Right after I would turn off the accordion and back on to see if the saved settings were retained. I'm pretty sure that the setttings are saved to a non-volatile chip somewhere so even if left unplugged for months nothing should change.

there is an outside chance that you don't know for sure
what you think you know

so the best next step is for you to go and meet with someone
else who owns one AND has successfully edited and saved things

you take your roland and he plugs his memory stick in it and loads
his global/all saved settings

you verify that they saved by turning your box OFF turning it on
again, and verifying it really truly for sure saved his settings

I do that fairly often just to not lose anything, but I don't do any great amounts of programming compared to some.

I use this method:
