I just love the sound of free reed instruments. I fell in love with the accordion this January and would love to play it at night. But as I live in an apartment, I tend to not play it after 8 or 9 PM. I can and enjoy playing soft ambient stuff on it, but it’s too tempting to get carried away and I suddenly burst some loud chords and notes. Also it’s not a light intrument!

I also love the melodica, it can be loud too but it’s easy, at least for me, to keep it very soft. So it’s perfect to play after 10 PM!

Of course this post is not a comparison between these 2 instruments or saying that one is better than the other. They are similar and also very different. I love them both.

I do the thing with my accordion and my accordina. Later in the evening I scan Olay the accordina without bothering anyone.

I was not aware of the accordina, looks like a very cool instrument!

Thank you Ffingers and Jim2010 for posting these great videos!

Here are 2 melodica performances that I like. Video quality is not great in the Eno Yoshida one and the kick drum is a bit too loud to my taste but an excellent rendition of Libertango.

And the Melodica Men are always fun!
