Hi everyone, I like to introduce myself I guess... My name is Murathan, I was a bassoonist, graduated from state conservatory here in Turkey. I'm in music about 30 years now. Some years after graduation, I started working on accordion and it passed 10 years at the moment. I dont push myself much, mostly go for easy / intermediate pieces and let things grow naturally. I always have the sheet music while working on it but arrange myself, adding some touches after. I also do online one-to-one scheduled lessons for Turkish speaking accordion learners, been 8 years now. I have a YouTube channel, "Murathan Akordeon" playing some music around the world, as well as Turkish classics since 2015. Accordion became a great adventure for me. I sort of touring around the world with exciting music. I also played at art galleries and weddings. I have a Hohner Bravo 3 / 96 and a Hohner Amica 4 / 120. I think thats enough for me in performance and price range, considering I m focused on folk music and not virtuoso pieces.

Anyways, I think there is a need for accordionists to gather in a place like this in these days. There are so many of them. I' m a regular YouTube watcher but I cant track many people, but I have my favorites too. I try to post videos regularly, so see you there if you are interested. Thanks and greetings From TURKEY. https://www.youtube.com/@murathanakordeon/

Welcome!
It's enjoyable to hear unfamiliar (to me) styles played on accordion.
Is there much interest in accordion in Turkey - maybe a revival?
Thanks, Turkey is a multi-cultural country in general. There are a lot of ethnic groups and settled immigrants, differs from region to region. Some people resembles that to United States. There is an interest to accordion in general, but not much. New and old immigrants from Caucasian - Circassian regions, border of Georgia areas interested a lot on accordion, they use in their own ethnic music, mostly by ear and there is a buy-sell market there. People living here from Bulgaria and Balkan areas also likes accordion much. Also everyone knows from old Soviet states. In Covid, almost everyone started taking online lessons on every instrument. Central Anatolia doesnt even know what an accordion is. But some nostalgia TV series used accordion in some episodes and people remembered that from past. So, there is a bread to earn but not a fortune. Interesting that I do lessons about %50 with Turks abroad. Because a German teacher for example will not teach them our songs :D
