Hi,

I am looking for a new hard case for my accordion and was looking for some advice on what I should get. I have a 120 bass accordion and I travel with it a lot. It's usually in a trailer with lots of amps and heavy equipment. I have been using a Sofia Maria hard case which has really taken a beating and is just falling apart. What do you all think I should get? I don't need wheels, just something that's going to protect my accordion and hold itself together. Thanks!

The Sofia Maria hard case is really just an accordion case cover and not designed for any heavy use. You might try Ebay for a used Italian or US used case in the $30.00 to $60.00 price range. JIM D.

Also on eBay for aluminium boxes. They are pretty strong. You would need to take measurements to make sure it fits.

I have taken my Excelsior midi around the country for the last 12 years about twice a week with my PA in a soft gig bag and it has survived the ordeal.

Do you really require a hard case?

My accordion has travelled millions of miles, around the sun while it has sat in my house. It has also travelled some short distances strapped to the back of my motorcycle, and it's those times when I think it would be nice to have a case, but not sure just any old box would necessarily make a huge difference. It sounds like the state of gregnaha's current case may be empirical evidence that a case would serve some purpose for him.

Donn, I too remember many years ago strapping my 120 bass Bugari to the back seat of my motorbike with only a bin liner to protect it from light rain.

Boy, I must have been mad :hb

i'm pretty torn on the subject now. on one hand, having a really heavy duty hard case would be ideal for protection in the trailer, but then again there's no reason i can't just get a new soft case and put the accordion on the top of our equipment.
