Hi folks,

Glad to see this forum - Im a semi-beginner (1 year) player in Reading learning the B-Griff button accordion and hoping to some day be able to face learning free bass :) Would be very interested to know if there are others around in Reading too, I have already seen one user introduce themselves here but would like to know about more.

You can hear me playing some christmas carols here - any constructive feedback gratefully received! :)

Hello again and happy new year!

Hi hyphz, welcome to the forum!

Why did you chose the B-system?

Hi, after playing piano for a long while I knew I wanted to learn button accordion because I wanted to try out a new way of playing a keyboard. When I first read about button accordions, I read about Bayan accordions on Wikipedia, which claims they are tuned for a more precise sound. I liked the sound of that and I knew Bayan accordions used the B-system so that is what I looked for. I managed to get in touch with Nikolai Ryskov who is a Bayan player living in the area who sold me a very good accordion of his brand name at a reduced price. That's what I've been playing since then, I did think for a little while that I might buy a Roland to be able to try different settings and freebass, but decided not to because my day job uses computers a lot and having to charge up my accordion and wait for it to boot would remove an awful lot of the relaxation and enjoyment I got from playing :)

Yeah, I assume that the bayans have really helped to popularise the B-system.

Hello Hyphz. Welcome to the forum.
You'll see from another thread that I have just acquired a Bayan B system two days ago, and like yourself I have played piano most of my life and played the PA for 15 years. Now I am faced with the fascinating task of converting my knowledge to the Bayan. I note that you have been learning for a year, how far have you got in that time and can you give me any tips on the best way to approach this. I am leaving the free bass well alone for a while by the way.

Pete
