Denis from Ottawa here and new to the forum. I have taken up the accordion after a long time idle. Every now and then I start over again in the hope of getting better but always seem to barely catch up to where I left off years ago. Hands are slowing down :( . Oh well. I enjoy it though. Seems I can't just play for a half hour. It usually goes on for hours before I look at the clock and decide to get back to the real world.

Hi Bumblebee and a warm welcome - it's good you can play for hours. I get bursitis in my left shoulder, and while it doesn't stop me practicing, it interferes with my concentration, leading to increased errors and frustration. I have to stop after an hour or so. I can go back a f3w hours later and I'm ok for another half hour. So I do 'daily' and find it avoids the 'slipping back' somewhat.
Have fun with the return journey..
How cold is it there now?

Denis: Welcome to the Forum , You are not the first person I've known, that has for whatever has taken a vacation on something once loved and dismissed it for some reason.
Keep Playing And Have Fun

Hi Bumblebee, welcome indeed.
I agree with Soulsaver in that the massive practise sessions are not as productive as the more frequent but shorter ones.
In addition, as our bodies age, over use for long periods of some part of our anatomy (no that is not some form of innuendo guys and girls  ) becomes a serious risk.
Perhaps you can set the alarm to remind you what time it is.

Welcom. I too have been on and off with the accordion over the years. Most of the time was when I would try a different insterment. It's all about the music and having fun! I have music ADD.

Thanks for the welcome. I may be practising too long at a time but I know I will even it out soon. However I have noticed my fingers don't move like they used to. I guess that just means more practice. hehehe
