Hello

I'm from Estonia. I play B-system CBA since 2010. I started to learn accordion in 2002 when I was 12 years old. I studied PA in childrens music school but when I was in grade C1(third year) my teacher told me that I should try CBA. Sadly we didn't have working instrument and I continued to play PA. In 2008 I discovered Dutch accordion players from youtube nad decided that I must switch to CBA. Actually I grew up with Dutch accordion music, my grandfather played accordion and listened accordion music quite much. He had cassete tapes with "Die Kirmesmusikanten" it was my favourite tape. He and I thought that it was german accordion duo but every time when we listened some other german accordion tape I wondered why it sound so different. My father had Die Kirmesmusikanten also on reel-to-reel tapes. It was maybe in 2006 or 2007 when I got internet connection and got access to youtube and then I discovered that I almost always listened Dutch accordion music and almost nothing else. Die Kirmesmusikanten was actually De Kermisklanten thats why german accordion tapes sound different :D Actually I listened exclusively Dutch music - Georg Baker Selections, Pussycat, BZN, Teach-In and others. It is interesting that very much Dutch music circulated in Estonia when Estonia was in soviet union. So thats why I like Dutch accordion players style very much. CBA in Estonia is not very popular we have only mostly classical academic accordion players who play CBA but in jazz and other popular styles PA is dominant. I choosed B-system CBA becase it is only option if you want some cheap used instrument in here, when Estonia was in USSR only B-system was played here since it also played in Russia. Actually B-system was right choice for me because quite soon I discovered that it is possible to get very good B-system instruments with actually very good prices from nowhere else but Holland :) I bought second hand Accordiola Jazzmaster from there last year. With C-system my changes would have been much smaller to get decent instrument with affordable price. I'm not good player at all because I haven't studied CBA with professional teacher and in here we don't have CBA teachers who accept some other styles than classical. Triple musette is not very popular in Estonia, actually many players even professional ones don't know what is authentic musette and gladly play with 8-8-4.

Thats little intro about me.

Tere!

Welcome. I lived in Estonia for a couple of years, in Tartu, in fact I got into playing the accordion when I was browsing osta.ee for instruments, and found a 120 bass PA for cheap. Sadly I didn't manage to find an English speaking teacher while I was there, so I'm self taught and not very good! I don't think I've heard any Dutch accordion music, will have to go check it out {}

Nuuksu - Welcome to the forum. Great introduction.

Welcome to the Forum Nuuksu.
We really are making an international forum here and your contribution will be great.
I too have b-system bought in Holland (where I live). They are as you say quite clearly the most common keyboard layout.
Unfortunately I don't play it much as I am really a PA player at heart.

Hello there in Estonia,

I've heard of beginning CBA accordion players looking for a cheap starter c-system accordion, who had bought B-system USSR made 100 bass 3-row bayan/accordion.
Sometimes you can find these 3 row B-system bayans very cheap for less than 100 euro, and in some you can easily switch the 1st row and 3rd row reed blocks, changing a B-system into a C-system in a matter of minutes.

That's one way to quickly get a cheap 100 bass accordion with a C-system CBA layout.
You can check some inside photos of old soviet accordions on the internet, to have a look and see when it is possible.

If you don't like the c-system layout, you can return it to it's b-system state after some minutes.
When you can switch the reed blocks, you have the choice between the 2 systems: b-system and c-system...

I have on of these kind of old USSR bayan accordion. One with funky little buttons made from some kind of bone. Their sound is actually pretty decent especially left hand. But anyway I'm not interested about c-system at the moment.

Hello and welcome. I love music from Estonia - Arvo Part is one of my favorite composers. I look forward to hearing more.
