Hi all,

I'm Charlotte, 42 year old living on my narrowboat around the West Midlands (could change, but I move slowly!).

I am very new to playing accordion, I have some basic music knowledge and can play by ear and read music, but I'm very much a beginner.

I love the sound of the accordion itself, and the styles of music it tends to lend itself to. I particularly love Balkan and Eastern European folk, although to be honest the artists I'm more familiar, such as the Kolpakov family, with tend not to be accordionists - I'm looking forward to discovering artists new to me! That said, I'm open to all music, and I really enjoy a wide variety, ranging from folk from most parts of the world to punk to desert blues to Dvorak and Elgar...will always be open to new suggestions!

I want to learn to play piano accordion well enough to not wreck a casual jam session. After that... we'll see! I currently have an old German, Italian sounding 42 bass piano accordion that my brother gave me for Christmas a couple of years ago. The poor thing has a couple of sticky keys but I do have something to try and work stuff out on for now. Not really in tune enough to play with others, but one thing at a time!

It is! Apart from, you know, all the damp, lack of space... 🙄🤣 I joke, living on it full time and it's fine.

I actually have an old Wallis squeezebox which is VERY narrowboat friendly as far as space goes (although I don't think it loves the conditions), it's possibly past repair but I love having it around. Can't play it - such a different animal, but I would love to give it a go once I'm more confident on piano accordion. Before that and I think I'll just confuse myself!

I am new to the accordion have one on my narrow boat . I put sachets of silica gel in the accordion case to keep any damp air away as I am not on full time yet

Welcome Charlotte! Be careful, if you're like most of us on here you'll start collecting accordions and pretty soon you'll need a wideboat.

Hello Charlotte from another forum newbie :) You are living one of my alternative lives ;)

Welcome fellow narrowboater! There's something incredibly comfy about playing accordion on the canal

I'm currently waiting for the Leeds Liverpool to reopen
Yes! I've never been up as far as the Leeds and Liverpool, I want to. Currently on the Coventry. I'm actually supposed to be (my own schedule, but I will help myself if I stick to it!) putting my shower pump back in right now, but I keep picking up the accordion..!

Hi Charlotte, another liveaboard narrowboater here! I'm currently on the Staffs & Worcs (that decodes to The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal)
Very much a beginner too with a Baile Celeste 80 Bass

Danger! I'm sure I can get rid of some non essential items, like, you know, clothes, fridge. Or... we're gonna need a bigger boat!

Thought I quoted you, but I had not. Just wrote a random reply to the ether! Yes, nice, I'm going to do the same. Where are you moored? So happy there's so many boater accordionists on here!

I am moored at kings road lock engine out at the moment working on it as we speak then off to live at hebden bridge . Don’t think I would be classed as an accordionist YET lol
