Hello

I am in the process of refurbishing a grille from a Honer Morino and I'm in need of some grille cloth to match the existing. I have tried Charlie Marshall and he only stocks the Hohner silver grill cloth. I know I could renew all the grill cloth but I really want to keep it looking original. The original is more of a slightly golden colour and when you see the silver cloth next to the original the difference is night and day. I have tried to dye the Honer cloth which is made up basically of a white cotton with silver thread woven through it, but the silver thread doesn't take a dye.

Does anyone know where I can purchase this gold coloured cloth preferably in the UK so I can request a sample first. To do the repair all I need is 2 pieces at 200mm x 80mm but don't mind buy more.

thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Yes Im familiar with the older Hohner Morino grill cloth (Made In Italy). After 40+ years of repairing and restoring Ive resorted to replacing old grill cloth completely with a new product.
When searching for a original replacement in most all cases the part your looking for is obsolete in a manufacturers replacement parts. And if you do find it, it most likely will not match the old aged cloth. I now make my own grill cloth in all colors in my shop with polyester cloth with a metal screen backing. If you were in the US I could send you a sheet 8x 20 in a gold very similar to the original. Shipping to the UK will be costly. Best by a sheet locally and reline the complete grill. And just a tip - on most accordions the old cloth is glued on with a water soluble glue. To remove the old cloth soak the grill in water with a bit of dish detergent for 45 min. to 1 hour - it will then come of in one piece easily.

hi Jim

I will probably renew the full cloth, thanks for the tip for removing old cloth. I was just hoping to get a match to keep it looking like the original. I was going to use PVA glue to stick the new cloth on. Jim I am willing to pay for it and pay all postage costs. If thats a posibility send me a PM and Ill send you pictures of my cloth.
thanks

You've probably your grille cloth done by now but if not, have you looked at the Hohner/Europe website? They still sell grille cloth. They use paypal and other cards and the post is extremely quick to the UK.

Hi

Thanks soulsaver, after much asking around I managed to got some from a friend of a friend the same as in your link who had cloth left over from a previous project. Its the closest you'll get to the original. However on reflection and looking at other accordions I think the bog standard silver cloth would have been just as good.
