I've tuned an old Hohner Corona a few years ago and last year I tuned my melodica . Working on my recently aquired hohner imperial this is my first time fully servicing the reeds, in particular replacing valves. On my imperial it appears someone tried to restore it once upon a time and when I got it the valves that hadnt fallen off were mismatched so I couldn't correctly match the replacement valve sizes, so I kind of guessed by using the thinnest and working my way up. Stupid me didn't think to look at the valves on my hohner student to get an idea. The higher notes sound really really good but the low notes sounded just alright. Had the thought tonight to pull out my hohner student for a look then replaced a few valves on my imperial...OMG, very huge difference. I think after I get the valves corrected I'll try adding a reed block resonance bar.
