something about the tone of it - a bit simpering and insincere. Even the heading - in tune with the fun - sounds like yet another out of tune reference that accordionists are frequently subjected to. Probably doesn't help that it has that look of 1950s/60s USA about it - just when the accordion was being driven out by the popularity of grossly inferior electronic twangy things that don't sound anything like a real instrument. Not that I'm biased against guitars....
you are probably right - I have perhaps grown a little too cynical thanks to other little cartoons like the famous "Welcome to Heaven - Here's your Harp" "Welcome to Hell - Here's your Accordion"
<FONT font=Garamond><SIZE size=125>This is pure 1950s talk. No more, no less. Perhaps the accordion industry was beginning to feel the pinch of rock n roll, and thought of this as a way to get youngsters to think that the accordion was cool, hip, or groovy. They should have (IMHO) hopped on the bandwagon and introduced the accordion to the rock world, but the main players were still pushing the old genres.
Just my 2 cents.....
the accordionist disturbing the snooker/billiard player in his concentration, but it could have any noisy instrument, a bagpipe, trumpet player, whatever.
Funny though the comment by Daumier
page 8 of this book hints at some possible reasons of the negative image the accordion had with some upper class establishment.
Lots of luthiers and traditional music instrument makers saw their income and job in danger with the advent of this newcomer the accordion, nihil nove sub sole.
I don't think there was any pun intended. Think back how would you're parents disscribe the accordion and its abuilty to be a band in a box. To them to play for singalongs was the life of the party.
As far as the accordion in rock music its only becouse most accordion players will not try. Give me a lessly peddle and a dry tuned box and wall laa you have a walkin hammon organ. Have had lots of people come up after a set and say when they 1st saw the box on stage they thought here comes polka time. They never herd anyone do that. I don't know why. Its a lot of fun! Feed back can be a pain. I allways polk fun at the accordion. Its all in fun.
What do you call a perfect pitch?
When you throw an accordion down a well and don't hit any banjos!
