Good morning everyone. My dad inherited this accordion from his mother born in Genoa (Italy) in 1904. We would like to sell it but it needs to be restored. In your opinion is it worth it or is it too old a model?
Thank's
Raffaella

Welcome Raffaella!

That’s a beautiful accordion, definitely worth something. You could sell it “as is” to someone who would like to restore it. Common wisdom here is that an accordion like this will cost you more to have restored than you will be able to sell it for. But it could be a “labor of love” for someone.

Without more knowledge of the accordion condition and market where you are, it is difficult to recommend a good selling price. Is there an accordion shop or repairer around where you could get some advice?

Of course, you could restore it yourself and learn to play it….

Good luck!

Thanks for your kind reply. I live in Liguria (Italy) I tried to sell it on Ebay and they offered me €50. I was sorry to sell it because I feel it could be worth more. I will try to contact a musical instrument shop in Genoa.
Thank'

Raffaella

Figurati! Settimo Soprani is a respected brand, your accordion seems to be from the circa 1940s (someone more versed will correct me). It is a minimal featured “student” level accordion. If I were buying it for restoration I would probably start with an offer of $100 - $150 based on the condition. But that’s in the US. I don’t know the real market in Liguria. Maybe one of the Italians on here will chime in. Tom

ciao Raffaella,

this is a bit smaller than full size, but still a nice build,
and currently, smaller, but useful for an Adult is desirable
in the general Marketplace

your specific accordion is late 1940's early 1950's

it is obviously in very dry condition, which is good and bad..
the body and metals will be good, but all the leather, cloth, felt
parts (many) likely need replaced, especially the bellows needs
re-taped and corners re-set

inside there are many small leather valves which take a lot of
time to remove and replace

i would suggest you prepare a small packet of information
about your Nonne, a picture of her playing this instrument,
and where and when she played it to be placed inside the
case for the next caretaker of this accordion. What we call
the "Provenance" of an old accordion is nice to have as the
instruments are not just what they are, but what they meant
and how they were part of someones life and the life around them..

to people who are attracted to the Settimo brand, this would be
a fun accordion to have.. not a gem as far as the model, but quite nice,
and worth restoring to the right person who has some repair skill

i hope you find someone worthy of having this accordion, and
frankly, if they are nearby and agree to perform for your Family
at some future reunion or event once they have restored the instrument,
that could be payment enough..

ciao ciao

Ventura

ps: i loved Genoa one summer during a visit.. when the sun comes up
over the city it is truly "made of Gold"

Is it worth it to restore this accordion? YES.
Will you make a profit selling it? NO. More than likely you won't even make back enough to pay the man for the restoration and the time it takes.
