There is so much variation in classical and contemporary music. I always thought I liked listening to Bach with its mathematical and musical maze of counterpoint. It is great, some say the greatest music ever. But I suppose the music I really like listening to is the calm and tranquil type. I find Lydia's music, certainly this Rameau, has a relaxing quality. I really like the way she plays a Pigini Sirius, one of the most iconic and capable accordions - but she is not trying to hammer out notes at 200mph (not here anyway). When I listen to Classic FM, I very rarely hear accordionists play. But this musician could grace any radio station.
For me, classical music can be soothing, and health enhancing. The treble keyboard is of secondary interest to me. Either treble keys or buttons can provide a suitable manual for historic keyboard music. It's the buttons on the left side that I adore. It gives an extra dimension to the music. The free bass enhances a simple melody and the lines of music can intertwine like ivy. You can turn a traditional melody into a piece of classical music just by arranging the bass well. To me, it's this junction between simple melodies and subtle harmonies - that's when the music can sparkle.
You know, I like this garden music, as I call it. If you listen carefully, there are times when you can almost hear the reeds mimic the song of the blackbird and the dove. Magic.
Great, and well described garden music, thanks Walker. I've been known to sit like this at the end of my driveway and play, especially when there is a bike tour or antique car run along the lake. My house, my accordion and my looks are somewhat more modest, as is my repertoire, but I persevere nonetheless.
