Well, earlier today I finally looked through the smartphone video my mom made of me on the December 10 accordion club Christmas party event and I have to chuckle. Unfortunately, my mom is not very tech savvy, and so forgot how to turn on the video (missed the first song completely) and forgot how to use the zoom function (lol). Thats ok, its a nice memory of a nice evening (that stressed the crap out of me... haha!). If you look to the right every now and then you see a lady using her iPhone to capture me on video... she was the wife of the original owner of my accordion, and you can see her enthusiastic body movements here and there... lol

This is an excerpt of a couple songs that I played that evening. Remember, it was a still totally new accordion to me, and I had not played in nearly 4 decades, so that at least partially explains the lower quality of the performance, but for what its worth, Id like to share a few minutes of that day with you:

Did you post a link Jerry? If you did it appears to have got lost in the mix.

Those embedded videos are ok on some of my devices, not others (which may be something I'm doing wrong, who knows) -

But anyway, most enjoyable, and at least based on these highlights, it seems to me you succeeded perfectly in what you set out to do, and that's fantastic. Must be a good feeling.

Was the FR8X operating on its own this time without the midi expander? Once again the expressive side of this instrument comes across.

Oh man, this is really great Jerry!!! That's a pretty large group to play out for your first time in almost four decades! You're crazy!

Your playing is excellent. The sounds from the FR-8X came out extremely well and the audience is very involved. Clapping on every tune like that is unusual to me! That means it was extremely appreciated.

Thanks so much for sharing. One video can say a lot more than 10,000 posts sometimes!

Glenn,

If you're using Google Chrome (and possibly some other browsers) the embedded YouTube video "box" will not display. I ended up using Microsoft Edge and it was there.

Well done Jerry! Couldn't think of a more discerning audience for you to play in front of after such a long lay-off. Shows what the instrument can do, and there were no "crazy" sounds we sometimes hear from Rolands on You Tube.

Thanks for posting.

I used Google Chrome and there was no issue with the video. Sounds like you are getting to grips with the many sounds the FR8x offers. I hope you did get something to eat too...

Ah, between Matt, maigein96 and Glenn it makes sense now. It seems that some browsers dont see the YouTube embed. I quickly did a test on an iPad, PC IExplorer and Chrome in the preview and saw nothng wrong, so I submitted the post. Just now checked in FireFox, and it disappeared. Strange. Ill just post the link in any future posts. Thanks for letting me know. :)

Here is just a straight link, if interested guys:

Straight 8x going in to a mixer and coming out a pair of Bose 802Es, no MIDI expander or arranger. I left the BK-7m and Ketron X4 at home because I didnt have time to practice with the arrangers (the 8x was complex enough to handle on my first time out, imagine adding another level... lol). Ill try adding the arrangers in Februarys session and see how it comes out. That said, I did use the integrated drum sounds of the 8x on the bass side, which of itself was an interesting experience. I never had tried it before, though the Ketron X4 does have the ability to do so, but not as nicely as the 8x can do it. :)

Its a lot tougher than it looks, Thomas has it down really well, its another one of those aspects that just takes some settings experimentation and time to get used to.

The pasta was cold, but they actually put my meal aside under hot lights and served me a bit later. The rest of the meal was hot, which was really nice of them!

Seriously, thanks for the kind words guys!

With hindsight, the non-display seems to be related to browser security settings. On my Windows 10 laptop using Google Chrome I get a warning (small shield motif with a red "x" in it) at the top right corner. When I click on the shield I get a message saying that "the page is trying to load scripts from unauthenticated sources", which presumably relates to the embedded You Tube box. It asks me if I want to "load unsafe scripts", which I obviously decline.

When I use Edge that warning does not appear. Hope this maybe makes sense to somebody who knows about these things.

Thanks Jerry. Now I see the video link loud and clear. I am using Tapatalk on an Android tablet. I see other embedded youtube vids normally. Must have been an off day.
Now to the video..... I agree with the others that you are certainly getting to grips with the fr8x. Even the guy chatting to you whilst playing didn't phase you much.
By the way, your mum needs some lessons on how to take videos with her phone :)

Thanks Glenn, and sorry, but there are no amounts of lessons available that would help her out in that domain, she is from the non-digital age and beyond help in that area... lol

But she did try and it did manage to give me a few memories! :)

Great video of a great performance, Jerry. Well done. The 8x and the fellow playing it sounded great! Good luck with it; it's a beautiful instrument.

I can see the video with no problem. Great performance Jerry!! You look so calm and confident. Hope me and others with the same stage fright can play like this one day!

Thanks Acon, but I am glad that video cannot read minds... lol. Also you did not see how badly my hands were shaking when I went to sit down. All that said, yeah, I would love to do it again and I will bring it to the next club meetung in February. I also feel I can do a lot better too. :)

Sadly we don't live in the same place Jerry or I'll definitely go to see your performance. Enjoy your next show and all the coming applause!! :b

thank you for sharing! I enjoyed your video. My hands always shake terribly, don't even know how I play like that, until about 8 bars into the song, then I seem to calm down! Great job!!!!

Question: are you using the bellows? It don't not look like it in the video, but then it was never zoomed in. On the FR-8X, the bellows makes a huge difference in the sounds you can produce! I cannot play the FR-8X without the bellows - guess it's just the way I was taught!
