Hiya folks,
apparently my original thread https://www.accordionists.info/threads/musescore-with-registers.5727/
is not open for new comments. Whatever the reason there's also now this new section it would have been in.

I'm still using the soundfont for playback and haven't made any changes that are not documented in the original thread.

I have noticed there's now a Musescore 4.
Unfortunately they've changed the way soundfonts and instruments work so it won't work with that.

I mostly use Musescore 2 because that works ok for me and it lets me put chord symbols above the top stave without automatically
messing up the spacing:

That Am is a chord symbol attached to the bass note.
Not necessarily a good place to put chord symbols but it's the way they did it for "Easy Accordion Solos".

Hi Glug,
I was interested in installing and trying your sounds. I will install Musescore3.6 for that.
Are you doing anything about importing your accordion sounds into Musescore 4?

SIncerely,
Simon

Hiya,
It's a good plan to try them on 3.6.

Apparently "The function to select a different patch of a soundfont is anticipated for a future release." (https://musescore.org/en/node/338500)
But I'll see if there's a workaround.

Gave it a try, (mostly) can't be done on Musescore 4 so far.
You can play back if you only use one instrument per stave.

You can use a VST3 plugin to get an instrument to sound but there's no link between that plugin and the Musescore 'Instrument' text on the stave so you can't change instrument.

sForzando and sFizz are both free, you can pick which instrument you want in a popup when you select them in the mixer.
But I can't get sForzando to produce any sound yet.

FYI.
sForzando and sFizz (free) will both be picked up by Musescore 4 and you can select them in the mixer.
They will then pop up a window where you can select the instrument to play - but only one.

Polyphone will export .sf2 format to an sfz directory for sFizz to use.

'Tis the season to break stuff. Within a few weeks of Musescore 4 coming out, Lilypond 2.24 was released --- and broke all the accordion register playback features I wrote for 2.20 and 2.22.

One thing I wish they would allow in Musescore is to try parsing a file instead of just rejecting it because they don't like the file extension.
Historically Unix based systems would try the file if you say it's input rather than saying "don't like the name" which is what Windows does.

If they allowed that I could rename all my Musescore 2 files to name.mscz2 and have them open automatically in Musescore 2.
