I think they are the youngest contestants (7 and 8) in the under 17 bands category. They played very easy songs but I am very proud of their submission.
My younger daughter Juni felt left behind when her big sister Annabelle participated in the competition last year. I thought she wasn't ready this year, but she really wanted to participate.
My teacher gave us a beginner level duet book. Annabelle has previously played diets with me at the airport. But for Juni it was new territory. The songs were simple enough. We originally planned to do four songs, but in the end decided to drop two from the list.
They only had about three weeks to practice. Juni was very motivated. She'd wear her accordion and drag me with her for practice every day. After learning her parts, there were more challenges. They'd fight over who gets to introduce the song and count. They'll look at each other and nod to confirm that both were ready. We let Juni do all the talking and counting. It was hard to play together without getting distracted by what the other one was playing. They both had to keep time and stay in sync.
They had to play both songs in one take. After several attempts, this was the video that we submitted.
