bill here. Pro musician all my life. Mostly guitars etc. in my 70s and still gigging. Playing mostly broadway shows and other pit band things. I also fixed and built guitars now for 50 years. Have taken up tinkering with old accordions again. So many around that need some work to get back playing, best to all.

Welcome Bill! I've never managed to play guitar, but in middle age I picked up the mandocello which suits me rather better.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your adventures with accordion!

Hello Bill! I too am an “oldie”, 73 and play piano, guitar, and some others. I’m a complete novice with accordions having recently acquired my first. I found myself fascinated with the internals and with some help from an expert have started making adjustments and minor repairs on mine, This forum has a wealth of knowledge and wonderful people! (as does the accordionrevival.com web site.) I look forward to hearing about your experiences! I see you are not terribly far from where I live.

Welcome young Bill!

Welcome.
I think I've noticed two trends over the last decade on the forum:
1. Age is no barrier
2. "Beyond reasonable/economic repair" has been replaced by "Well, I've just ..... and could do with some advice on how to .....
Or "Can anyone help with sourcing a ...... for a ......"

Yeah, old people got time on their (our) hands to contemplate repairing the “beyond repair” accordions. Seems to me over the past 10 years there has been a shift more to the accordions themselves than the music played and created. Nothing wrong there, of course, just interesting. Or maybe you meant the age of the accordions, not the forum members, I don’t know.

I was thinking members as for "Beyond reasonable/economic repair", well I guess that's me too.
Well, at least you have universal health care! I could literally buy a new Gola every year for what I pay in healthcare. Talk about “beyond reasonable”……

yeah the last time Andrew (accordion playing Dentist) quoted me a price for a Crown
i told him i probably wouldn't live long enough to get my moneys worth out of it
so just drill and fill !

then the Doc said my Sugar was too high and wrote me a scrip for "Jardiance"
which came back at the Pharmacy as $1.10 per pill / 90 day supply so i
went back to the Doc and said
"i want a new drug.. one that has a generic..
one that won't, cost so much.. or cost, me a bill"
and i sang it to her like i was Huey Lewis

Lyrics
I want a new drug, one that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car
Or make me feel three-feet thick
I want a new drug, one that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red
One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
When I'm alone with you
I want a new drug, one that won't spill
One that don't cost too much
Or come in a pill
I want a new drug, one that won't go away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day
One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
I'm alone with you, baby
I'm alone with you, baby
I want a new drug, one that does what it should
One that won't make me feel too bad
One that won't make me feel too good
I want a new drug, one with no doubt
One that won't make me talk to much
Or make my face breakout
One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
I'm alone with you
I'm alone with you, yeah, yeah

Yeah, he’s probably already got his Gola too!

on the flip side of life, nowadays when i use an old tool i have had
for 40 or 50 years that has served me loyally, like that noisy
Ray-o-vac car battery charger (can select 6 or 12 volts)
i say to myself
"Yep, i guess i DID get my moneys worth out of this one"

oh his prized box is a pristine white 4 reed Titano like the ones
those Euro guys drool over from the Victoria days
Cool! I have heard accordion music described as “dental office music.” He can provide his own! Does he play at your club meetings?

well he is shy when it comes to performance,
but i and some of the other club members play
for the "office" while we are waiting for our appointment..
he leaves a medium Hohner there for everyone to hit

though i took a Roland last time and played a bunch of
BeeGees stuff then French Musette (his 2 faves)

it is a gas seeing the reactions of people stuck in a chair
mouth open when they hear "you should be Dannncinggyeahhhhhh"
