Hi everyone

I am from Edinburgh, Scotland. My name is Matthew Maclennan. I am a professional accordionist who plays traditional Scottish music for all sorts of functions.

I play Hohner Morinos and i also have an old Ranco Antonio Supervox I play occasionally.

Say hello!

Welcome aboard. BBM - anyone who plays a Ranco, even occasionally, is a friend of mine! :ch

Hi Matthew, welcome to the forum. Between the Morinos, the Ranco and traditional Scottish you have a lot of kindred spirits here.

cheers

Hello! Welcome Matthew... great to have you on board. :ch

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Would be interested in your back story as how you became a professional accordion player (if I'm not being too nosey<EMOJI seq="1f60a">?</EMOJI>)

Hello Matthew,
Welcome too. I always enjoy your broadcasts on Take The Floor. I was bought up on Scottish Country Dance music and I love strict tempo playing that has lift, swing and feeling. That is something I try to do ,but, do not always succeed at.
Roy.

Hi

I started when i was 7. Was brought up outside Inverness. Had two or three different teachers and ended up going to Peter Farnan in Aberdeen. Who is a musical genious and taught other well known scottish dance band players theoughout the years.

I was encouraged alot by Accordion and Fiddle Clubs and was invited to play at lots of different functions from concerts to ceilidhs. I then started getting paid to play on a semi pro basis. I went full time in 2010 when i moved to Glasgow. I then moved to Edinburgh in 2013.

I play for all functions from scottish country dancing, ceilidh dancing, concerts and shows. You name it ill play at it! I have travelled abroad to Europe, Oman and Kenya thus far and enjoy travelling to new countries.

I play Hohner Morinos. I have a IVS and a VM that i use regularly. I enjoy trying lots of other accordions. I havnt found a new one recently that would make me think "i must have that" im not fond of the new Morino model. Never say never though. Im always interested in how the accordion changes. Im not into full electronics in accordions. I use MIDI bass occasionally. Thats it. Im an acoustic man at heart

Currently im playing at "The Taste of Scotland Show " which is at the Prestonfield Hotel in Edinburgh. The regular accordionist is out due to an injury.

The MD is Robert Black, renouned accordionist in his own right.

A show aimed at tourists but still entertaining to all.

Im on soundcloud. Searh for Matthew Maclennan.
