Hi all!

So excited to find this place. I’ve played the accordion since age 4, for 45 years, learning through Clinkscales in Melrose, Selkirk and Hawick, southern Scotland. I had a series of boxes from them, but my latest at age 9 was a 72-bass their brand made for them by Paolo Soprani. My accordion teacher wanted me to get a bigger box, but I stuck my foot down at 72 bass size. It is still my much adored box, and recently had its first retune in 40 years from Gordon Pattullo. Here is a photo of that box:

I mainly play Continental music, but recently started doing my own musical arrangements using the Notion sheet music notation software on my Mac.

Sadly I have had a progressive neurological disease since 1994, so haven’t been able to play so much for many years. I need help to get the accordion out, and am often too weak to play. I recently bought a 48 bass Weltmeister Perle to give me a lighter more compact second box I can manage to play more, even if it doesn’t do all the same notes. It is helping a lot. Here is a picture of it.

This year I am hoping to work on my technique, picking up the Palmer-Hughes course at my rough point (book 5, so I’m aiming to practice books 4-6).

Anyway that’s my story!

Welcome, vivdunstan!

I'm with you about the 72-bass. While I do like the extra notes/chords of a 120-bass, I find that the 72-bass will get me where I want to go for most of the music I like to play, and it's a lot more manageable to wear while standing.

I've got a 48-bass too. It is, as you mention more limited, but still a fun instrument to play!
