Hi, my parents recently passed, and I was given my dad's accordion with the understanding that I will learn to play it, and play it with my Guttenberg (IA) German Band (I usually play clarinet.) It is in pretty rough shape, and I need to find someone who can restore it. I would like to start by identifying what model it actually is. Here's what I know: It's M Hohner Made in Germany, it's a Knopf button box. I think it dates to the 1920s? I'm attaching a photo of the box itself, and also of the penciled, hand-written number on the inside.

Any help in identifying it and in finding someone who can restore it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is a diatonic accordion, meaning different sounds when pulling vs pushing. This one seems in very rough shape. Be warned, the cost to repair will likely exceed it's value.

You will likely receive more help at the melodeon.net forum. :)

Welcome Kay!

It looks to me to be a diatonic (different notes per key on the push and pull) Hohner, made in Germany in 1926, as Jerry has mentioned.

I don’t know if there are any repair people in the Dubuque area, but you are about 2 hours from La Crosse and could take a beautiful ride up some (first Tuesday of the month) Tuesday evening for a meeting of the Tri State Accordion Club at Earl’s and ask for Ron, the guy with the beard playing the Petosa accordion in this Facebook picture. (From the Facebook site, it appears they are still active). He repairs as well as plays and would probably look over your accordion and give you a recommendation on the spot. Good luck!
