Last September I bought an 80 bass 2 voice Pilgliacampo compact accordion from a dealer whom I had dealt with before without any problems. I had to return the accordion it because it was badly out of tune and a reed block was loose. Now 5 months later I have had an email to say it had been retuned and was being returned to me. The accordion though a bit older, is much cheaper than buying new and is lighter with more treble keys than my 72 bass Weltmeister Achat and the same size being a compact. As five months seemed a long time to wait for it to be returned with many exasperating non replied emails, I had given it up and put it down to a bad experience. I wonder how many others have this kind of experience. (I'm not allowed to say who the dealer is)

Why on earth not?

Five months is too long to wait and why was it not given a once over by the dealer before you bought it?

After a couple of weeks, did you consider to ask for your money back?? And just a guess - is this a London dealer???

I did ask for my money back but nothing came of it. The dealer is not in London. I was going to mention it on this forum and I told them, but they threatened me with court action for slander if I made it known on this forum or any other forum. I sought legal advice from the Trading Standards office but they are useless. So. because of the amount of stress it was giving me I decided to let it go for health reasons. In future I will only deal if its within 200 miles. But now that I have had an email to say it is being sent I feel a lot happier and don't want to stir things up.

Hmm. It does seem odd but I think I have heard that it can be dangerous by saying, say, things didn't go well, or thoroughly bad. I think it is a problem best avoided. Unfortunately, it is too easy to spout about something or somebody and they have no recourse to reply or even-up the odds as in people being malicious on Face book or what ever. The recent Lord McAlpine is an example. I do know many a dealer deserves a good dressing down. A recent case up North where a B and B was given two bad crits and there was some doubt the people had even been there was through out of court. Sad.

A statement of fact How long it took you to get it back is not libel. As long as you stick to the facts you should be fine. You also have to consider if the shop is willing to pay legal fees to even bring this to court.

is a fair point

this does sound like a bad experience

some sort of happy ending would be great!

let us know when you get it back and how it sounds

keep us posted

Russ is correct. The dealer has no recourse if you stick to the truth without embellishing your story.

There's not that many accordion shops in the UK - Is the dealer in Bristol ??

Is Jim hot or cold with Bristol :?:

Let's wait until Bill gets the thing in his hands before anything more is said.
My fingers are firmly crossed Bill.

In a few weeks we can post 'Anyone got a Pigliacampo compact? Where did you buy? What is it like? I believe Goldtopia bought one recently. He may be able to help. That will do it. Best Wishes.

If this Post started with "What is a used Pigliacampo accordion worth " or "Would you consider buying a used Pigliacampo accordion" I would gladly reply. But since this thread involves concerns of a buyer and seller, I'll postpone my comments. Bill: If you care or may I'll respond to you in a PM. Regards: JIM D.

I had a similar bad experience with a dealer, I hope it was not the same dealer

Colimn. It may well have been the same dealer as you are south of them. I have exchanged personal emails with Jim D who knows of this dealer. He explaiined something about the origins and purpose of the Pigliacampo which was to produce a beginners accordion at low cost. Thus the reeds are not of the usual Italian quality and it being a two voice instead of the usual three voice for an 80 bass, also being light. I paid a bit more than it is worth but as it has been retuned that may possibly help to make up make up for the cost. We will see. From what Jim D says most Pigliacampos although they look nice, internally they are usually in poor condition and only fit for spare parts or the landfillt. The reason that I bought it is for the extra treble keys and the lightness. As the dealer is so far away I bought it without seeing it first. Jim Ds advice to seek advice on this forum before buying is well noted.

Now two weeks after the last input I have passed the matter over to the legal department of Which Magazine. Hopefully something will come of it. I will let you know the outcome.

Is it still not back? Or back still in poor state? Good on you, for tackling them, Bill.

I have just had an email to say it will arrive Wednesday. We will see. I had had a couple of private emails asking who they are, because others are maybe unjustly being suspected, though I dont want it bradcasted on the forum in case of a reaction.
