Seems a Bb scale starting on F right?

But my brain and fingers can't fit it into a 3/4 bar....

It's driving me crazy

@jozz I hear.... Bb, C, D, Eb, F, (F#) G, Ab, A, Bb...
Barry Harris Bebop trick of adding extra note to make scale flow fit...
Just cos I hear it don't make it right though... Good luck
Just edited as on latter listen think F# is in there too...

Yeah, I think it is. Good old-fashioned F mixolydian!

Assuming that the first note is beat 1 of a 3/4 measure, then the run (all eighth notes) ends on beat 3 of the next measure. That's a little unintuitive, which might be what's throwing you off. These sorts of things would more typically land on a downbeat--beat 1 of the third measure in this case. But that would require 12 notes, and you only have 10 here.

Granted, this clip is out-of-context. Maybe it is really starting on beat 2, in which case it would land on a downbeat? I'd need to hear more of the surrounding material to tell for sure.

the whole song

the 'oboe' run starts at 1:25

Ah, that helps. It's a run of 16th notes, as it turns out. It starts on the "and", or second 8th note, of beat one.

Here it is in context...
thanks for that extra pair of ears!

i was missing the starting point
