Re-mapping Roland midi output to get Moschino bass?

Hi All.

I've never dealt with midi before, but I've heard that a Roland box can be re-mapped to have the LHS running in a 6-row Moschino mode.
I am guessing that I'd need to use the Roland (FR3 in my case) in MIDI out mode and then do some processing externally. I.e. Roland - MIDI OUT - [Re-mapping] - Some sort of MIDI interpreter/player.

The idea is to try the Moschino layout, so I'm happy to be tied down to a PC with a cable & I don't need this to run in standalone mode. Don't care that much for sound quality either, or ability to change registers, etc.
If my guess is correct that Roland sends a midi command when a bass button is pressed in midi out mode, then I just need something (my PC?) to process that command, re-map it to the corresponding Moschino note and play a sound... Sorry, I'm a complete newbie here.

Any help is appreciated. Great if there's a ready-made solution already available, but if not, I'd be grateful for any idiot-proof guide on how to use MIDI for dummies.

Thank you.

I have also considered remapping the basses similar to what I have done for treble using external mapping.
The problem is that for all included free bass arrangements in Roland (FR1X) ; two or more buttons play the same note and thus mapping would not work (some buttons would be wrong). For the treble side ; only three rows have unique notes and other two rows are duplicates so I could only remap for a three row instrument.

That's a very good point.
I was hoping that I can get round this issue by using the orchestral bass, but I can see that I can only get 5 rows out of it. Or six rows over 4 columns, so only an octave and a half.
Ah well. It was worth asking the question.

I don't give up easily ;)
Reading about midi - it looks like the midi protcol is capable of sending control messages per button:
"
MIDI CC can be used to extend the range of functionality of a MIDI message.

For example, MIDI and keyboard controllers assign unique MIDI CC numbers to each knob or encoder (and sometimes buttons too). This allows you to map them to parameters in Live when using MIDI remote control.
"
Here's hoping that Roland supports this functionality 🥺Has anyone experimented with this?

I guess Uwe Steger is your best bet.

Try to contact him, usually he's very responsive.
