There are no daft questions. As Glug said these are covers over the end of the keyboard axles. There are many types of keyboard mechanics but the most common ones have a rod going through (underneath) the end of the keys, providing a hinge point. Some accordions have just one such rod or axle, some have two (one for white keys, one for black keys), and some button accordions have even more axles.
The end of the axles stick out just a bit so a you can grab the rod with pliers or a vise. Without cover you would hurt yourself while playing.
