Hi,

My wife has a Crucianelli Pancordion which has three bass buttons marked with a gem: Ab, C and B. Her other accordion (a Calvi Signora) has the E button marked instead of the B button, same as my two accordions (Roland and Hohner).

I understand that the standard marking is Ab - C - E... Is it common to have the B button marked instead of the E button? Her accordion is identical to this one, which has no gems in any bass button, so it might be that a previous owner did the marking and decided for some reason to mark B instead of E...

Im thinking of swapping these two buttons so that all our accordions carry the marks on the same buttons. Does anybody know how the buttons are fixed in this model? Maybe glued? Press-fitted? Thanks!

I would be surprised if this is the original marking. What you can do is open up the cover of the bass mechanics (the plate where the bass strap is) and check whether the pins on the E and B bass are the same. It is possible that at some point these two buttons were swapped, and you should be able to swap them back (if you can handle a bit of tweaking of the mechanism).

Francisco,
I would say whoever made the markings simply miscounted and marked the B instead of the E<EMOJI seq="1f604">?</EMOJI>
In any large collection of used accordions, you are likely to see one or two examples of this kind of error. This is due to the fact that it is novice owners (or their equally novice caters), early in their musical career who do the marking<EMOJI seq="1f642">?</EMOJI>.

Crucianelli did the marking on their accordions. (Our family had several in the seventies and in our club there were dozens.) All of them had Ab, C and E marked.

Thanks a lot for your help and suggestions! I'll have a look into the bass side and will post here the results.

I opened up the bass mechanism cover to have a look. This is what I found: the rods for the E and B bass buttons (11th and 13th from left at top) have their horizontal lever (the one which lifts the lever for the corresponding reed pallet) hidden behind the aluminium bar. They cant be seen even when pressing the buttons. However, I believe there two rods will probably not be interchangeable: looking at the rods with visible levers, there arent two equal for the bass and counterbass, while for the chord buttons there are matches. So probably Ill need to take out the rods and detach their buttons to interchange them.

Also, it seems that at some point in the life of this accordion, the mechanism has been greased. There is a sticky goo all over it... The button movement in this box feels like dampened, probably due to this grease.

So I have now two reasons for disassembling the whole thing: cleaning all parts from the grease residues, and bringing the marked button to the E bass where it belongs. ( It will have to wait... my working table is covered with some 200 little pieces from the telezoom which Im now in process of cleaning to remove a fungus plague....)

Ill post the results when done!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180125/fd1d13456c43416e8872c99f93cad7e8.jpg>5161b6889936d6cd9700437cc0a93af2.jpg

Ugh. Take lots of photographs: you are likely to have to do a complete disassembly to get rid of all that gunk, and make no mistake, you don't want it in there.
