Hello everyone,
Playing a gig last night, I took off the RH grille to help out the sound - and one of the screws rolled under the stage and through the floorboards, lost to the mice and beyond...
Do these screws tend to be generic? It's a Pigini P37 convertor and I live in Edinburgh.
I'll contact Pigini but grateful for some experience from the community as well!
Thanks in advance,
Phil

FingersPhil, who will hereinafter be known as "SlipperyFingersPhil,

mainly i think the screw will tend to be Metric, coming from Italy/Europe,
so you should be able to match one up at a Hobby store.. it is a little
harder for us here in the SAE USA to find an exact thread match

The screw WILL BE metric. Can you send pic's of one of your grill screws. I have many new & used Italian accordion
screws and I'll try and find a match for it.

On my side of the pond We have used the same expression for years.

ok, thats 2 votes for "ButtterFingersPhil"

i suppose we could have a poll ?

or Phil can choose which nickname he prefers

i do hope he is a good Sport !

Thanks everyone.

ButterfingersPhil is pretty apt! Slight tussle with the fact that I'm a long-time vegan, but then again PlantbasedspreadfingersPhil doesn't really have the same ring...

When I was a kid my mum would despair at the fact that I could play a Beethoven sonata but then proceed to spill dinner/water/anything all over the table.

Jim D, if you have anything that would be amazing. It looks like 2mm I think. Photos attached.

many thanks once again!
Phil

many Computer cases use similar screws to hold the outer plates on,
though maybe not quite slim enough

some of the internal screws used to mount Drives and such are also similarly threaded
and slimmer, but often rather short

if you have a friend who fixes up old computers nearby,
they likely have a box of leftover screws

These screws are fairly generic, albeit not all identical. They are certainly not all the same length.
But every accordion shop that does repairs and all seasoned repairers are likely to have some.
You can also order them from accordion supply stores like Carini (in Castelfidardo).

Most computer cases use non-metric screws whereas accordions use metric ones... so they won't match exactly.

i did not know that

had assumed (since most come from China) that they would have
fit them to Euro specs in your market area..

Interesting. My second wean always spills dinner/water/everything all over the table. I haven't tried getting him to play a Beethoven sonata yet. Maybe I should try.

Re the screw, contact Charlie from CGM - he'll probably have a replacement.

I have these in new & good used. For years they were used on Victoria & Titano accordions and now Pigini's.
If you have no luck in finding them locally I can fix you up with one or two.

tcabot: I recommend CGM music too. Charlie has grille screws of various kinds, to suit all kinds of butterfingers, (and he's only about 20 miles away).
Charlie might know what size Pigini use but otherwise it's handy to know the length, diameter and thread type (fine or coarse) (they all vary).
If you have (or know someone with a set of metric taps and dies) this will help in identifying the screw type.

If butterfingers lives close to city centre, I can pop round with a box of taps & dies next time I'm in the office, as long as there's a cup of tea on offer.
And don't you worry about me getting my dirty hands all over your P37 keyboard, I only dig B-griff.

Italian does not seem to guarantee metric though. I have recently bought a Chinese-made bass trap that came with an M5 screw, just to discover that Italian tension wheels use some non-standard thread pitch. After trying every metric and imperial die I had, I couldn't find a match, so I just cross-tapped an M5 thread right on top of Italian one. Looks like it might work just fine, but time will show.

tcabot: The difference between the Chinese M5 screw and the Italian tension wheel MAY have been that one was fine thread pitch and the other was coarse. Is that too simple or am I missing something?

I will second Charlie Marshal.
He supplied me with missing grill screws for a Paolo Soprani which were a perfect fit.
