I just discovered this new recording of Rhapsody In Blue by Richard Galliano.

I think this might just be the greatest 16 minutes of music EVER recorded by an accordionist.

I listened to the above recording again after a gap of around 6 weeks. I'm now hearing new things... little bass runs, motifs, effects, big leaps of pitch, mimicry. I can hear the car horns, traffic noise, street lights etc. There's also humour and lightness among the intensity of the story being told. The mix of right hand wizardry with superb free bass and stradella sequences is unsurpassed in my view, but it's all so musical!! The "expressive" and "impressive" combined in fluid harmony.
