Richard is not only a first-class musician but also a talented producer of User Program Banks (digital sounds) for the Roland FR range of v-accordions, they are in another league in my opinion and better quality sounds than those the factory fitted.. On top of that he is a nice guy. For anyone interested his website is: http://noelaccordion.com/roland.html

I could have told you that 8 years ago (and indeed I did right here... lol)
The Richard Noel sets are to this day the best in the market, and I strongly believe that all 4X and 8X should come from the factory with the Noel sets, it really brings that accordion to life!

The best thing about them for beginners is that Richard Noel includes step-by-step as instructions for installing them, backing them up, and how to best use them.

IIRC, he has also has developed a package for the FR-1x.

I just checked. Noel has developed a sound package for the Fr-1x/1xb. It’s available through his website. The FR-1x section of his digital accordion page also has a video by Bruce Gerow about using the 7x/3x/1x editor to find and load more sounds (he uses a 3x in the demo) into these accordions as sets.

The link for Richard Noel does not work any more. Anybody knows why?

Looks like a permissions issue more than as if he had left. I suspect a tech issue. Give it a few days and try again.

If you don't manage to get to him, PM me and I'll try to forward his email.

I purchased Richard Noel FR1x package. I added the two sets…I like the way he creates the programs from the factory, out of the box accordion. I use my sets too, but like the additional.
Although, will stay the FR4x, seems more comfortable when sitting. May use the FR1x when I need to stroll out for a special table side song.

. . . I purchased Richard Noel FR1x package. . .
If you have a Roland and Richard Noel has "Sets" or "UPG's" available to purchase for your model, buy them. You will be very happy with your new "Noel" accordion. It's what Roland should have provided right from the factory. I think they would have sold even more than they did.

The Fr7, I never changed anything. Used the factory sets. Never occurred to me to program the accordion at that time? Should have read the manual😳?
Played hundreds of gigs with it. But not using the accordion for every gig, played keyboard arranger mostly. My idea of a digital accordion was the available midi and the accordion sound. If I played a dinner dance, played the keyboard. Oktoberfest, Italian, French or German: the accordion rules.
Satisfied with my own FR4x sets, but the FR1x seems more challenging to program since you cannot make the changes in real time connected to the editor.

You could have read it, and even if you understood everything, it would still require many hours of adjusting the multitude of parameters, that Richard Noel modified to develop his Sets and User Programs. There is a lot of value in his programs for what he charges.
