A friend of mine has a Roland FR-4xb. It seems easy to e.g. modify User Programs via the editor software downloadable from the Roland site. I managed to install the java software without any problem. It starts up without any problem. According to the support page, it should be sufficient to connect the accordion and start it up, to enable the installation of the USB driver. I can see that the Windows 10 operating system tried to install the driver but it has not succeeded. When I try to do a manual search for a driver update, the OS is telling that it cannot find a valid driver. (The installation was performed on my friends computer, so I did not note the error message..). Does anyone have any experience of problems with the driver installation on Windows 10 and what to do?

Ive done it often enough, yes. Use the driver available for free from the Roland website. A 10 second search on google will get you the exact URL to use to locate it. ; )

Thank's for your answer Jerry, but the driver download (Roland Arranger Driver Ver.1.0.0 for Windows 10) available from the Roland website does not contain any software as far as I can see. It just contains some support pages in HTML. I spent a little more than 10 seconds ;-) without finding any alternative download site (at least any that I feel I can trust). Do you have more specific information Jerry? I would be grateful.

Well I have a couple of computers downstairs (win 10 and win 11), that I never installed the editor or Java on, I can do what I normally do and capture the screen video, if that would help?

That could certainly help. If you have the time to help I would be very grateful Jerry :) . It would be sufficient if you try on the Windows 10, since I succeeded to install the software and the driver on my own Windows 11 PC. But my friend only has Windows 10 and not a hardware that can be upgraded to Win 11.

Fantastic work Jerry. I am sure that it will be valuable for many, so I love that you did the work :-). In my case, I should perhaps mention that I have 40 years' experience of working with software. Your video did not address the problem my friend has. Normally Windows should install the driver as soon as you connect the accordion, with the software up and running (and the accordion switched on of course). In my case, the operating system is apparently aware of the need of a Roland Arranger driver but does not install (I think it indicates error 28) and thus, will not enable the software to talk to the accordion. (Please note neither Java nor the editor application is the problem. The application works.)

I have been in contact with Roland, but they have not provided any suggestion. I have tried to manually uninstall, search for hardware changes, and also tried to ask for a driver update, but no actions with any success.

As I said, I really appreciate your effort and I am sure that the video can be helpful for those with less experience, so thank you Jerry!

If the system is not receiving the internal command to "see" the Accordion, its more likely a USB driver error or the hardware.

1. Make sure all updates are installed.
2. Uninstall the USB driver and reboot to PnP install the right drivers OR use the USB driver the motherboard manufacturer recommends.

3. Try a other USB port or on another computer.

This has nothing to do with Java or the editing software.

Jorpe: I think I am facing the same problem with one of my laptop. Did you find a way to resolve the problem?

I am not sure I remember all the details. For other reasons I updated my laptop to Windows 11, and managed to install on that. As far as I can recollect the basic problem was that the driver from Roland did not have a valid certificate and got an error code 28 when looking into the Windows logs. I did not manage to override this and reported it to Roland support.

Eventually I got a zip-file from the Roland support. That package seemed to work without any problem. I would be happy to provide the zip-file to you since it is a free software, but it is under Copyright, so my suggestion is that you contact the Roland support and refer to my experiences and to the contacts I had there. I got the package form a Róbert Gaál and also had contact with Johan Gullbo.

I hope this can help. (Check the Windows logs to see if you also got the error code 28, i.e. got the same problem)

Just disable it in windows…

… then after installing it enable it again.

Jorpe: Thanks, I followed your path and updated my laptop to windows 11, and it is now ok
JerryPH: Thank you for your answer I didn't have time to try before my move to w11 but I am sure this technic will help

For Windows 11 the process is the same and I have made videos where the editor works on WIN11 too, so I can at least say that it works.
